An Art Gallery With A Difference

Originally published on Beaches Covered Magazine by Lauren Goldsack and photography by The Newport Studio. Read the full article here:

Unlike traditional galleries, artists at Outfall Art Collective share management duties, allowing them to keep most of their sales proceeds. Matt’s initiative has created a supportive and collaborative environment for artists to thrive and navigate the art world together. Legend!

OUTFALL ART COLLECTIVE

An art gallery with a difference. Sculptor and all-round good bloke, Matt Wilcock together with Leah Ramage, founded the Outfall Art Collective in 2022. This unique gallery features talented artists in painting, sketching, photography, sculpture, and ceramics. The Outfall Art Collective also supports emerging artists (under 21) by providing free space for showcasing their work, providing a platform to a broader audience. In return, the artists are encouraged to donate 10% of sales to a charity of their choice, promoting social responsibility and personal causes. Committed to unearthing new talent, supporting diverse artists, and making a positive social impact, the Collective remains dedicated to its mission while supporting local artists.

323 Barrenjoey Road, Newport, 2106 (next to Zubi Café) | Open: 10am -3pm Thursday to

LEAH RAMAGE

THE OCEAN ARTIST

A self-taught watercolour artist, Leah finds inspiration in capturing the simple beauties of moments and places, drawing from her deep connection with the ocean and natural surroundings of the Northern Beaches. Her distinct style in watercolour and gouache on canvas currently explores Australian culture through coastal landscapes and ocean rock pools, magically capturing the transparency of water and fleeting moments. Her works have captivated collectors worldwide, earning her recognition at prestigious art events and art prizes. In 2022, Leah was a finalist in the Bluethumb Art Prize, winning the People’s Choice Award. More recently, she won third place in the SOHO Art Prize, 2024.

MATT WILCOCK

THE DEEP SEA ARTIST

Matt, an engineering patternmaker by trade has a deep connection to the ocean, evident in his artistic and recreational pursuits, shaping his unique artistic journey. Initially drawn to the ocean for free diving and salvaging old steel chain and pipe from Warriewood’s abandoned ocean outfall, Matt began sculpting with Pittwater mooring chain and locally quarried sandstone. His sculptures, reflecting the raw essence of the sea, capture his profound bond with the ocean and its inhabitants. Matt’s sculptures can be found in public and private collections in Australia and overseas, showcasing his ability to capture the beauty and power of the ocean through his art.
